Since STIs often show no symptoms, many of those infected don’t even know it. If left untreated, STIs can increase the risk of getting infected with other STIs, cause complications with pregnancy, or cause damage to the heart, liver, or brain. The only way to know if you or a partner has an STI is to get tested.
Student Health Services can test for these STIs:
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhea
- Hepatitis B and C
- Herpes
- Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
- Syphilis
- Trichomoniasis

After testing, results are available in several days (sometimes sooner) and can be communicated to you via phone or secure message.
Confidentiality
Test results are recorded in your medical record. All medical records are confidential. Information from a medical record can be released only with your official, written permission, which designates exactly what information is to be sent to whom. However, by law, some positive results (including HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis) must be reported by the lab to the Department of Health.
